What Your Horse Wants You to Know: What Horses' "Bad" Behavior Means, and How to Correct It

I purchased this book in an effort to make good on the commitment I made to my hulking 5th wife. She (Bessie) has been increasingly difficult to manage and in general, a bit of an overweight wild bronco. I, semi-correctly, thought this book would help. I note the following from the book’s description:
“What Your Horse Wants You to Know” focuses on improving your horse’s behavior on the ground, so you can develop relationship and communications skills without the more challenging problems that arise once you’re on his (or in my case, her) back.
This helpful book suggests that I use my entire body to communicate with my horse (I do this and then some). It’s suggested that I show my horse that I respect her needs and feelings (I haven’t been doing this). I’m told to be patient and consistent with my horse while having fun (I’ve been neither). And this fine book suggests I try to understand my horse’s fears (this is impossible). I am supposed to respond appropriately to physiological or nutritional problems (I have doing this for years to no avail–the woman is more of a cow than a horse). And lastly, I should use praise to make my horse feel confident and successful (this one is hard to do given my current situation; however, I am trying).
As you can see, there are some helpful tips to dealing with a difficult spouse. I’ve noted marginal improvement to her overall behavior and what I perceive to be some improved confidence–particularly when I pat her on the head although I was thrown to the ground the last time I tried to climb on her back. A worthy effort and a crossover success story. Well done!!

I haven’t yet bought this book, but I was reading the reviews and wanted to respond to Hoppy and his write-up about his 5th “wife”. I’m assuming Hoppy that you have already had her examined and have eliminated the possibility that it could be a physical problem causing her to throw you to the ground??? If she’s as overweight as you say and she’s carrying a lot of girth, that could be putting a lot of pressure on her spine, even to where it could be pinching a nerve. Your added weight could literally be the “straw breaking the camel’s back” so to speak. I just wanted to mention this. Problems with horses aren’t strictly behavioral. I’m going to have to buy and read this book. It sounds like a must-have. By the way, I put the five stars because it’s required to fill that out. I’m going by others’ reviews at this moment.

I am reading books on horsemanship. I had seleted various authors and cooresponding trainers. Each offer styles that work. Each are similiar. The difference is the preentation of the material. I have a dog and have brought him back from the meanest one I ever owned. He was abused and he has found a very loving home. He is no longer mean, showing his teeth on every approach. The things I see in horse training are very similiar to how I work with dogs.
This is one of the many sources of training styles I am reading, and recommend it.

This book is just o.k. I would not recommend it. Not very useful.
