I’ve been trying for the longest time to teach my dogs to ‘down’ but they dont seem to follow the lure like in training videos :( They either eventually stand up (although I’m not holding it that far away from them) or just look at my hand when I try to lure them into a down :S

Hello, well I can’t tell you the exact way to do it but as said before you should start doing something you know your dog whant to do. Or maybe give him/her something. Some dogs like treats and some like games with balls or something like that.

the usual is giving a treat and suddenly the dog takes notice of you and whant’s to know how to get more of the treat.

From there you just have to start the training. There is many ways to do it so feel free to try them out^^

sure, because you said sit DOWN, sit means sit and down means down…sit down can confuse your dog, maby that’s what’s going on.

Whenever i say sit down to my dog he lies down…

first of all,get the attention of your dog and give him/her a treat,if he/she like the treat..put the treat into his/her mouth and start the command. Its very easy, goodluck!

vitocorleone57 March 9, 2010 at 3:03 am

hi eletendre1,thx for ur reply
my german shepherd is one month and a half old,is he too small to train?the problem is that i got him very small.10 days old,so he hasn’t spent time with his litter mates,he still bites hard,i ‘ve tried much to let him stop, nut no use,can u help please!!!

eletendre1 March 9, 2010 at 4:00 am

Thanks for your question. You can say sit just as your dog goes into the sit position. As you lower the lure, say the command down just as your dog gets into the down position.

Good luck!
Eric

o cool thanks!

Put your corgi on leash, this can prevent the backing up. With the crouching put your corgi on a table or some surface where you are not standing over him/her.

VChibiAngel93V March 9, 2010 at 7:46 am

what to i do?!?! When i try that my corgi backs up!!! or crouches
